Licenses & Credentials

I am a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, New Jersey Licensed Professional Counselor, Internationally Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, and Certified Simplicity Parenting Coach.

I am also able to provide Telehealth sessions for clients residing in Florida.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors in Psychology and membership in the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society.  Upon graduation, I spent several years conducting research and studying evidence-based treatment approaches in a clinical psychology doctoral program and later at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.  Subsequently, I earned a masters degree in psychology at the New School for Social Research.

Professional Experience
1998-present

With more than twenty years of clinical experience, I have worked with war refugees, consulted in underserved schools, and provided individual, couples, and group counseling services in community mental health clinics and substance abuse treatment facilities. Since 2011, I have been working privately with clients presenting with anxiety, depression, relationship and intimacy issues, developmental trauma and family of origin difficulties, immigration and socio-cultural displacement, racial and trans-generational trauma, chronic pain, codependence, men’s issues, and parenting stress.  I am currently adapting the latest developments in somatic and neuroscience based psychotherapy techniques to help clients heal from unresolved traumas, transform painful or unhelpful beliefs about themselves and the world, and tap into their inherent ability to heal and find vitality and peace.

Approach

I relate to each session as a good representation of the art and science of being an effective therapist.  I was well-trained in evidence-based treatment techniques, and chose to further my training in Somatic Experiencing in particular given its strong basis in the study of human physiology and neuroscience.  At the same time, my lived experiences of seeing a war close up, immigration, and close experience with a diversity of people and cultures, has provided me with a built in ability to sense deeply when I sit with another person and see their unmet needs and enormous potential.

Most sessions will be a combination of talk therapy and body based practices to support the goals of healing and well-being.  While many clients choose to stay in therapy for long-term work, as well as support, for most people even a short body of work of just a few months can be quite helpful in interrupting problematic patterns and connecting with their authentic self, much less impeded by the worst effects of past hurts and traumas.
